Currency

The local currency is Cuban peso (CUP). At the hotels and resort areas payments are  accepted with Debit or Visa credit cards from Canadian banks or cash (Canadian dollars, USD or Euros).

Outside of the tourist areas, private businesses take any currency (USD, CAD, EUROS, CUP, etc. at owner’s discretion ), if it’s a government run business then payment is in local Cuban pesos (CUP); we recommend exchanging Canadian dollars into pesos as you need them since you won’t be able to exchange the left-over pesos back into Canadian at the end of the trip.

The best currency for tips is USD.
